Upendo necklace

The Upendo neckpiece is inspired by a remarkable woman our founder met in Cape Town in 2013. She ran a daycare in Imizamo Yetho, a township near Hout Bay, where she charged minimal fees, often unpaid due to financial struggles. Despite the challenges, she tirelessly sought out children in need, bringing them to the daycare even when resources were limited. When asked about the hardship, she explained, “We’d rather share half a loaf than have them raped.” She cared for all the children as her own, some of whom have gone on to university, while others have faced tragic outcomes. Her selflessness and commitment to making a difference, regardless of recognition, deeply inspired me.
